Penelope's Pride Quilts
The children's Book The Quiltmaker's Gift by Jeff Brumbeau is Kathryn's
very favorite.  Inspired by the generosity of the Quiltmaker she tries to
work on quilts for good causes as much as possible.  If you'd like to
assist in any of the work by quilters we'd recommend the following
organizations.
Quilt Pink - http://www.quiltpink.com/
September 2006, across the country, more than 1,000
shops held Quilt Pink events. Approximately 100,000
quilters and non-quilters joined the fight against breast
cancer, making a difference one stitch at a time. Quilt
Pink 2006 culminates in May 2007 with an online auction
of more than 4,000 quilts. Proceeds will benefit Susan G.
Komen for the Cure.
They’re getting ready now to make 2007 Quilt Pink
Weekend even bigger and better…making a bigger
difference in the fight against breast cancer.
Take your daughter, mother, sister, or friend and join
quilters everywhere for Quilt Pink Weekend, September
21-23, 2007. You’ll make a quilt block, which will be
stitched together with other blocks into a finished quilt.
American Patchwork & Quilting magazine will sell the
quilts via online auction and donate the net proceeds to
Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
ABC Quilts - http://www.americanmothers.org/abcquilts.cfm
History:
Who would believe that an international organization would
be born when two grandmothers in a small New Hampshire
town took up a challenge from Dr. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross to
"do something" about AIDS afflicted infants abandoned in
hospitals? Their "something" was to make and donate quilts
to these babies, a way to provide them with the love and
comfort they did not have from a mother or grandmother.
ABC Quilts was founded in 1988 to give love and comfort to
at-risk babies in the form of a handmade quilt, and to use
this process to promote awareness, community service and
prevention education. They define "at-risk" as those babies
born HIV-positive, affected by their mother's drug or
alcohol abuse while pregnant, or abandoned. The
international network of volunteers has delivered over a
half million quilts since ABC Quilts was founded.
Program:
ABC Quilts in association with American Mothers, Inc. state
organizations, teach people of all ages to quilt, and through
quilt-making we work to prevent HIV/AIDS, and alcohol and
drug abuse.
If you would like to get involved in this important
community service program contact the American Mothers,

Project Linus - http://www.projectlinus.org/
Project Linus is a 100% volunteer non-profit organization
with a two-fold mission:
First, it is their mission to provide love, a sense of security,
warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill,
traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of
new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by
volunteer "blanketeers."
Second, it is their mission to provide a rewarding and fun
service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in
local communities, for the benefit of children.
Quilts of Valor - http://www.qovf.org/
The mission of the QOV Foundation is to cover ALL
combat wounded and injured servicemembers from the
War on Terror whether physical or psychological wounds
with wartime quilts called Quilts of Valor (QOVS).
This foundation is not about politics. It's about people.
